Communications at Sea

Internet

You can keep in touch with friends and family back home by using the computers in the Library or the Sea Room which are located on (Deck 3), Forward, and a good place to access the internet and send emails to family and friends. You can even upload some of your holiday pictures and attach them to your emails.

If you don’t already have an email account or can't access your own, the Internet Manager can help you with you set up a CruisE-Mailaccount.

You can also connect to the Internet using the Wireless Network. This allows you to collect your emails from your own laptop. If your laptop does not have wireless capability, you can hi e a radio card. Or if you do not have a laptop you can hire one. Pease see the Internet Manager on board for further details. Watch out for offers available during your cruise.

Connection to work Virtual Private Networks (VPN) using PPTP or IPsec is not guaranteed.  Skype and other IP telephony programs will not work due to the data delays introduced by the satellite link.  You will be able to connect to these services but speech will not work.

Wireless Hotspot Areas

The Atrium

(Deck 2) Spinnaker Bar and The Globe

(Deck 3) Meridian Restaurant, Caffè Vivo, Horizon

(Deck 8) Midship

(Deck 9) The Belvedere, Aft starboard and port side (pool)

Although the technology is available for you to keep in touch while at sea, please do not expect the same speed as your broadband connection at home, as the ship is 'wireless’ and relies on the data being sent to at least one satellite before it gets to its destination.
