TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
The ship has a length of 294m (964.5ft) and a beam of 41m (135ft) above the waterline and 36.6m (120ft) at the extreme of the bridge wings. The draft is 8m (26ft 3in) and the height is 62.5m (205ft) keel to funnel, which includes all of its 12 passenger decks.
Power for the ship's systems is provided by six diesel engines, four 16 cylinder engines and two 12 cylinder engines. The diesel engines were built by Wartsila and are of the Sulzer ZA40 design. Each cylinder has a bore of 400mm with a piston stroke of 560mm. The combined power of all the generators driven by these engines is 63.4MW. Each of the larger engines generates 11.5MW and the two smaller generators each have a capacity of 8.6MW. In addition, there is a standby generator with a capacity of 1.2MW located on deck 10. This is sufficient for emergency, safety and basic services in the event of a fault on the main generator network. It also provides power for the lifts to return to deck 3 and to power a "cold start" if none of the main engines are running.
Arcadia is propelled by two podded drive propulsors manufactured by ABB in Finland. Each AZIPOD has a fixed pitch propeller and the combination of varying the speed of the propellers and the ability to rotate the pods independently through 360 degrees provides steering and manoeuvrability. Each pod takes a maximum electrical power of 17.6MW.
The ship is capable of reaching approximately 23.7 knots (44km/h), but will cruise at 18 knots and can carry 3,000t of heavy fuel and 150t of marine gas oil, consuming 10t per hour for maximum output.
The ship has three bow thrusters each taking a maximum power of 1.9MW. Arcadia has one pair of folding fin stabilisers and each fin has an area of 20m².
There are three high holding power anchors, each weighing just over 11t; two are working anchors and the third is a spare mounted on the forward open space on deck 4.
The chain cable has a diameter of 95mm (each link weighs around 82kgs) and the ship carries a total of 742.5m of chain (two and half times the ship’s length). The Bridge is located on Deck 8, some 26m above sea level, where the deck officers have an unobstructed view for navigation.
